FIELD: machine engineering, namely metal cutting and plastic working, particularly combined processes for making and shaping outer threads by milling and plastic deforming such as knurling.
SUBSTANCE: process comprises steps of preliminarily forming thread by means of small-tooth disc-type thread milling cutters rigidly mounted in axles. Finish profiling of thread is performed by means of freely rotating thread knurling rollers having inlet and sizing portions. Milling cutters are driven to positive rotation through groove of stem from separate drive unit transmitting torque to central doubled unit-pinion mounted in bearing assemblies in stem and kinematically coupled with pinions rigidly secured to axles.
EFFECT: enlarged manufacturing possibilities, lowered cost price of thread forming process, enhanced efficiency of process for simultaneously milling and knurling thread of improved strength.
