FIELD: plastic working of metals, namely methods and apparatuses for basing helices of steel band or shape at making piston rings or lock rings.

SUBSTANCE: method for basing helix of steel band or shape comprises steps of basing helix along outer surface of its diameter in sleeve with predetermined inner diameter while feeding each turn of helix separately and successively inside sleeve and fixing it simultaneously in axial and radial directions on basic surfaces of sleeve; basing first turn of helix on basic end surface of sleeve in axial direction and fixing next turns on previous turns at predetermined effort. Apparatus for performing the method includes sleeve with predetermined inner diameter and with inner end surface, carriage having stationary shaft and gear wheel kinematically joined by means of basing rollers secured to face chuck in such a way that built-up face chuck rotates to side of twisting helix and basing rollers rotate to side of untwisting helix. Linear rotation velocity of basing rollers exceeds at least by 5% linear rotation velocity of face chuck, carriage through rope is joined with predetermined-mass weight and it may move on guides along axis of sleeve and steadily force turns of helix and the whole helix through end surfaces of basing rollers to inner end surface of sleeve.

EFFECT: possibility for providing predetermined accuracy degree of ring contours along their outer diameter and size of thermal gap at thermosetting and cutting helix by separate rings.
