METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALUMINUM-LITHIUM ALLOYS Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

Abstract RU 2255997 C1

FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, possibly production of high active aluminum-lithium alloys, possibly alloyed in addition with silver for providing stable chemical composition of alloys and normalized content of hydrogen.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of loading and melting components of charge in furnace; treating melt with flux of halide containing salts, adding lithium, refining melt by means of gaseous chlorine, further vacuum treatment of melt in mixer and casting ingots. Eutectic mixture of lithium ad potassium chlorides is used as halide containing salts. Silver is added to melt after refining. Melt is subjected to vacuum treatment in mixer at 730 - 765°C. Ingots are cast in mold at applying on surface of melt flux containing eutectic mixture of lithium and potassium chlorides and in addition 5 - 20% of calcium chloride and(or) fluoride.

EFFECT: aluminum-lithium alloy with silver providing neutralizing of sodium additive in alloy, lowered content of hydrogen in melt at melting and vacuum treatment, possibility for producing semi-finished products for important-designation, possibly welded articles of air crafts and spatial vehicles.
