FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing 5-arylnicotine aldehydes, in particular, 5-(4-fluorophenyl)nicotine aldehyde by reduction of corresponding 5-arylnicotinic acids. Method involves catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of carboxylic acid anhydrides, in particular, trimethylacetic or isobutyric anhydride when palladium-ligand complex is used. The molar ratio of palladium to ligand is from 1:5 to 1:15 in case of monodental ligands and from 1:2.5 to 1:7.5 in case of bidental ligands. Method provides preparing substituted nicotine aldehydes with high yield.
