FIELD: hydrometry; ecological monitoring.

SUBSTANCE: method and device can be used for ecological monitoring of rivers and their coast landscapes, especially for determining marks of shore line of free surface of river, slope of river combined with making of its longitudinal and lateral profile of open area by specific trajectories of stream flows, for example, along dynamic axis of stream line. Running gear of device is put down to surface of stream flow till lower parts of blades touch it. Stroboscope is switched on and beams of blinking light are oriented on to blade. Speed of alternation of blades is measured by adjusting frequency of light blinking. Speed of motion of water onto surface of stream flow is calculated by relation of v=tf, where v is speed of water in m/s, t is pace of blades in meters, f is frequency of light blinking in Hz. Pace of blades is found from relation of t=πD/Z, where D is external diameter of running gear in meters, Z is number of blades of running gear.

EFFECT: increased precision of measurement of speed of water at surface of stream flow; improved efficiency of hydrometric measurement.
