FIELD: cleaning or keeping clear the surface of open water, particularly to prevent ice jamming formation in river section.
SUBSTANCE: method involves performing preventive works to permit free ice pass through river section by spraying ice-breaking or ice-loosening chemical agents on ice layer surface, wherein the chemical agents are applied as alternating strips directed transversely to flow velocity direction. The chosen strip width and spacing is enough to impart impacts of ice strips loosened and destroyed due to chemical agent application and due to river flow and flood wave action and of moving ice pieces to solid motionless ice strips free from chemical agents to provide their breakage. Chemical agent spraying is performed in downstream-upstream direction with time intervals enough to provide breakage of downstream ice before upstream one, to carry out cyclic impart application to motionless ice strips and to form clean water behind ice strips due to broken ice piece carryover.
EFFECT: reduced inputs for ice jamming prevention.
