WAY TO PREVENT ICE JAM Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: ice breaking equipment. SUBSTANCE: invention can be employed to prevent ice formation across jam-risky section of river. Way to prevent ice jam includes realization of preventive measures by formation of jam upstream of river with regard to jam-risky section for jam-free passage of ice. Gears impeding passage of ice and low-temperature sources are placed under ice to form jam. Artificial jam is formed with the aid of gear impeding ice passage and low-temperature sources. In consequence of complete damming of river bed as result of jam formation level of water rises and fragments of ice cover move with the stream towards flooded banks. When water rises to maximal level jam is destroyed and river again flows over main bed Flooded banks become shallow quickly and part of ice remains inevitably on banks which leads to reduction of ice passing through main river bed.
