FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises introducing inert gas jet-carried crystalline silicon powder or fines (with fineness up to 5.0 mm achieved when crushing ingots) into aluminum or aluminum alloy melt while simultaneously treating the melt with halide-containing flux. Minimum amount of the latter as well as average silicon particle size at various flux addition modes are determined from equations.
EFFECT: enabled utilization of undersized silicon.
