FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a steady rest for additional support of the central regions of workpieces during machining of central workpiece regions using a grinding machine. Said steady rest for grinding is adapted to be brought from the retracted position to the position of additional support to the region of the workpiece and has at least two supporting parts that can be advanced onto the region of the workpiece. Said supporting parts are each located on one side edge forming a fork with two arms, an opening prism on the arm of the rest in a fixed position relative to each other and the arm of the rest and in the support position below the center relative to the longitudinal axis of the region of the workpiece. Further, the bisection formed between the two supporting parts has a constant acute angle with a perpendicular passing through the longitudinal axis of the region of the workpiece. Said steady rest can be advanced to the workpiece region to be machined along the given bisection with the ability of control at the CNC.
EFFECT: roundness error rates in the central regions of workpieces to be machined decreases.
