FIELD: radio engineering; frequency conversion for transceiving equipment and measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: proposed balanced frequency converter has two pairs of field-effect transistors 1 and 3, 2 and 4; resistors 5, 6, 7, 10; capacitor 9; and transformer 8. Loading resistors 7 and 10 constituting split load of frequency converter will carry currents equal in magnitude but opposite in phase and proportional to amplitude difference of input signals. Products of sum and difference frequencies are set up across load connected to secondary winding of transformer 8. Capacitor 9 ensures electrical isolation with respect to dc current. Low level of nonlinear distortions is attained due to quadrature dependence between field-effect transistor drain current and voltage across its gate.
EFFECT: enhanced suppression of heterodyne signal across converter output at high input resistance and asymmetric inputs.
