FIELD: radiolocation, applicable for solution of the problem of detection and identification of helicopter against the background of the underlying surface at a stabilized level of the false alarm.

SUBSTANCE: detection and identification of the helicopter is realized in two stages. First detection of separate spectral components of the echo signal of the rotating helicopter blade is performed with the use of the rank criterion. Before determination of the ranks of these components their amplitudes, are preliminarily reduced by T times relative to the selections of amplitudes obtained in adjacent time interval of sounding of the assigned area of space. In the second stage the number of the detected adjacent spectral components is calculated for each for each time interval and compared with the threshold. The method is featured by a constant level of false detection, whose value is assigned by the value of multiplier T.

EFFECT: enhanced ability of detection and identification of the helicopter against the background surface with the aid of the on-board radar.
