FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in manufacture of hollow blanks such as shells, rings, pipes, moulds, etc. proposed device has tray, ingot mould and hollow mandrel. Tray is made solid. It height is determined from equation H>0.3h where H is height of tray, h is height of cast ingot. After pouring metal into ingot mould, upper part is covered with isothermic mixture. Main heat release is effected through solid tray. Main heat release is effected through solid tray. Solidified front is located horizontally. During entire period of hardening, liquid metal over solidified front feeds zone of crystallization.
EFFECT: improved quality of ingot owing to reduction of liquation defects and increased density of metal.
