FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: process of producing ingots by vacuum-arc remelting in a crystallizer with a tray. The method includes placing a protective screen in the form of a hollow tetrahedral truncated pyramid without a bottom with a non-stick coating on its inner surface at the bottom of the crystallizer. Before remelting begins, a protective screen made of refractory material with a density below 7 g/cm3 with the outer size of the large base equal to the diameter of the upper part of the crystallizer with the wall thickness of 5 cm is installed on metal supports in the working area of the crystallizer, at a height from the surface of the pan equal to the depth of the liquid metal bath. The inner surfaces of the screen at a distance equal to 1/2 of the height of the pyramid from below are pre-coated with a non-stick coating consisting of graphite and clay at a ratio of 1:1 is applied.

EFFECT: improved manufacturability of vacuum-arc remelting through the use of a screen in the working area of the crystallizer, which prevents liquid metal from entering the crystallizer walls, prevents formation of scull and helps to increase the yield of usable metal that is pure in terms of gas impurities and non-ferrous metals.
