FIELD: clinical medicine, laboratory diagnostics.
SUBSTANCE: in patients one should detect total magnesium concentration in blood serum to calculate the distribution coefficient (DC) for this cation by the following formula: DC = total magnesium of blood serum (mM/l)/total magnesium of saliva (mM/l). In case of 2-fold decrease and more against the norm of salivary magnesium concentration and 2-fold increase and more against normal level of distribution coefficient for this cation on should diagnose latent magnesium-deficient states. The method suggested enables to diagnose the development of latent magnesium-deficient states and could be applied in clinical practice with the purpose to detect indications to start substitutional therapy with magnesium preparations.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of diagnostics.
