FIELD: manufacture of fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors. SUBSTANCE: spacer grids are mounted starting from installation of their semi-rings and placing in them sections of row of semi-cells made of single zirconium strip. Width of zirconium strip equals height of cell throughout entire length of row from its side edge to side edge of rim. Fuel elements are placed in semi-cells, then second sections with mating semi-cells for lower semi-cells of sections and upper ones for next fuel elements and sections are placed on these fuel elements; second section is compressed to first one in each semi-ring to form hollow cells; joints between cell-to-cell and cell-to-semi-ring zigzag-shaped strips are spot-welded; process goes on until spacer grid cells are completely formed over entire length of fuel assembly produced in the process using spot welding for second semi-rings on assembled field of cells accommodating fuel elements. EFFECT: improved quality of assembly, enhanced service life, reduced manufacturing cost. 3 cl, 6 dwg
