FIELD: nuclear power engineering; fuel assembly manufacture. SUBSTANCE: method involves use of supports disposed level with lower and side edges of hexagonal spacer grids while maintaining permissible distance between spacer grids and removable supports. Coordinate schedule of entering fuel rods in coaxial cells of spacer grids is varied by introducing fuel rod first in cell of lower corner of spacer grid, then in that on left edge, in two cells on right edge using removable supports for the purpose. Fuel rods are inserted along horizontal row from right to left using bottom fuel rods as supports. Two fuel rods are entered in cells on left edge using removable supports; bottom fuel rods are used as supports for inserting them in cells of horizontal row from left to right until fuel assembly is completed, bottom plug of fuel element being used as stay member for cells. Permissible distance between spacer grids and removable supports is 255 mm. EFFECT: reduced input of structural materials and quantity of spacer grids; enhanced yield and labor productivity. 2 cl, 4 dwg
