HEAT TREATMENT OF AGE-HARDENING ALUMINUM ALLOYS Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

Abstract RU 2266348 C2

FIELD: heat treatment of aluminum-based age-hardening alloys.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes stage (a) of artificial aging of alloy at temperature TA which corresponds to standard aging temperature T6 for this alloy; artificial aging of alloy is performed during period of time sufficient for hardening of this alloy which is equal to 50%-95% of maximum hardening obtained by means of standard complete aging T6 of this alloy at temperature TA; proposed method includes additionally alloy cooling stage (b) under conditions of aging obtained at end of period of stage (a) from temperature TA to surrounding temperature to minus 10°C at discontinuation of process of primary separation of dissolved element; stage (c) of holding the alloy subjected to aging and cooling at temperature TB which is below temperature TA and is found within range of from minus 10°C to 120°C at formation of secondary nucleation of crystallization centers and continuation of separation of dissolved elements and stage (d) of heating the alloy from temperature TC within range of from TA -50°C to TA+50°C and holding the alloy at temperature of Tc for obtaining artificial aging of alloy. Description is also made of alloy obtained by this method.

EFFECT: enhanced hardness and strength of alloys at aging.
