FIELD: application of wear-resistant coats on cutting tools; metalworking.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes application of multi-layer coats by vacuum-arc method in reaction gas medium; application has upper layer made from titanium nitride, intermediate layer made from titanium carbo-nitride and lower layer also made from carbo-nitride. Lower layer is applied in medium of gas mixture of nitrogen and 15% of acetylene. Application of intermediate layer is carried out in medium of gas mixture at content of acetylene of 40%. Besides that, multi-layer coat has thickness of 6 mcm at thickness of each layer of 2 mcm. Serviceability of cutting tools is increased due to high adhesion strength of lower layer with base; intermediate layer possesses high crack resistance and upper layer possesses contact characteristics making it possible to decrease level of contact temperatures and amplitude of their fluctuation during working stroke of tool, thus decreasing amplitude of fluctuations of stresses acting on surface of tool during working and idle strokes.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.
