FIELD: mechanical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of profiling of least rolling surface of rail with rolling surface of convex part of rail head section profile and to rail milling cutter and device for implementing the methods. Methods used for making required profile by one peripheral cutting operation are implemented as follows: at least nine milled strips are made lying side by side in longitudinal direction of rail I which form in rail section, at least for milling strips lying at edge, a polygonal line (according to first method), more then five milled strips lying side by side in longitudinal direction of rail I (according to third method). If necessary, grinding of rolling surface of convex part of rail head section profile is carried out. Rail profile milling cutter 8 is made in form of sandwich cutter with several disks, each provided over periphery with turnable plates. Device for implementing the methods is provided with device for creating relative movement between rail 1 and milling cutter 8 and, if necessary grinding wheel 12, milling cutter drive 9 and grinding wheel drive 13, if grinding wheel 12 is provided, and milling cutter 8 and support for axle of grinding wheel 12 in direction deflecting from plane square to longitudinal direction of rail used at subsequent grinding. Invention guarantees insignificant waviness, both in longitudinal direction of rail and in profile of section only by proposed milling process without subsequent grinding of rails for use at slow running speeds and with subsequent grinding of rails for use at higher running speeds.

EFFECT: improved quality of rails.
