SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates maintenance of the upper structure of a railway track, in particular, to methods for profiling the rolling surface of rail heads, as well as to devices for profiling these surfaces. The device comprises two cutters. The cutter heads are equipped with carbide inserts. The cutting edge of the plates of the first cutter is made in the form of a polygonal line, which consists of two straight sections and three curved sections. Curvilinear sections are placed between straight lines. The contours of the conjugated curved sections follow the contour of the new rail. One of the straight sections is configured for adjoining to the side working surface of the rail head, laid with the minimum allowable underslope, and the other straight section is for adhering to the surface of the rail, laid with the maximum allowable underslope. The second cutter is made of two straight and one curved section located between them. The straight section located on the non-working side of the rail is configured for adhering to the surface of the rail head, laid with the maximum allowable underslope. The straight section located on the working side of the rail is configured for adhering to the surface of the rail head, laid with the minimum allowable underslope. The polygonal lines of the cutting edges of the cutter inserts are made individually for each rail grade.

EFFECT: formation of a defect-free profile of the rail head rolling surface.
