FIELD: thermal printers, in particular, multiple-mode printing system and methods using printing head with staggered arrangement of ink droplet generators for generation of single-color ink flow.

SUBSTANCE: printing head includes number of thermally effective aspects allowing great number of ink droplet formers to be arranged on compact printing head with minimized thermal deflections. In preferable embodiment of invention, number of ink droplet formers on printing head exceeds 10 ink droplet formers per square millimeter. Compact printing head has at least 350 nozzles. Ink droplet formers are arranged in at least four parallel rows. Each row of ink droplet formers is staggered (or offset) relative to adjacent row of ink droplet formers in order to provide for more effective pitch than arrangement different from staggered arrangement. Ink droplet formers comprise high-resistance resistors and provide for fine passivation in order to increase thermal efficiency. Thermal control is additionally enabled by ejection of low-weight ink droplets from thermally effective ink droplet formers at ejection frequency exceeding 12 KHz.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of construction providing high-resolution and high-velocity printing, and reduced production costs owing to effective utilization of head space.
