SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in hopper cars for transportation of loose loads. Proposed device for metered out discharge of ballast has hopper with discharge hatches closed by covers 3 secured on shafts 4. Tie-rod of drive 5 is connected by one end on cover lower than place of connection of shaft with cover at a distance not less then 0.7 of cover height. Angle between axis of drive tie-rod and line connecting point of attachment of drive tie-rod to cover and axis of its turning is not less than 60° and not greater than 75°, when cover is closed. Hopper is provided with shielding screen whose position relative to walls of hopper provides getting of ballast to space under shielding screen of hopper in time unit not less than amount of ballast getting out through aperture of discharge hatch.

EFFECT: simplified design, reduced load on drive, reduced metal usage.
