FIELD: cathode units for aluminum production electrolyzers.
SUBSTANCE: proposed cathode unit includes metal casing lined with carbon graphite blocks mounted on edge, hearth carbon graphite blocks with current-supply rods, inter-block seams, heat-insulating layer and refractory made from loose silica-containing material; refractory layer is made from waste of electrothermal process of silicon production in form of dust of gas cleaning cyclones, no more than 1 mm in size; this layer is compacted. Part of edge has stepped projections; mounted on upper horizontal surface of these projections are ends of current-supply rods and carbon graphite blocks.
EFFECT: increased service life of electrolyzer; cut costs and labor consumption; enhanced grade of commercial aluminum.
