FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: in aluminium electrolyser vertical metal cathode current taps conducting electric current from aluminium melt to the cathode bus-bars are made such that their top part of melted aluminium, and bottom part is hard. The current taps are located in channels made in the hearth lining with expansion in middle part, width exceeding width at both parts of the current taps. Expansion in the current tap channel can be filled with composite material, i.e. titanium diboride - carbon. The current taps can be made in form of tube, and expansion in the channel and space inside the tube are filled with the composite material titanium diboride - carbon.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of use of the electric energy due to absence of in the cathode current tap of the contact assemblies with dissimilar materials, reduced current losses, and guaranteed effective current distribution and effective current removal.
