FIELD: checking of presence of defects in long-sized steel items.
SUBSTANCE: oscillations are excited in item by means of contact-free method at one end of the item in perpendicular to its edge and in perpendicular to side surface. Oscillations are registered at the other end of item in perpendicular to edge and to side surface. Presence of defects in item and location of defect onto surface or in body are judged from standardized relations of speed of arrival of acoustic signals and from amplitude-frequency characteristics as well.
EFFECT: exclusion of contact method of excitation of oscillations; determination of internal or external defect location.
