MULTIPOLAR ELECTROLYSIS BATH FOR PRODUCTION OF THE MOLTEN METALS BY THE ELECTROLYSIS OF THE MELTS AND THE METHOD OF THE ELECTROLYSIS BATHS MOUNTING Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC C25C3/06 C25C7/00

Abstract RU 2275443 C2

FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy; designs for production of metals by the electrolysis of the molten electrolyte.

SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to the field of nonferrous metallurgy, namely, to the designs for production of metals by the electrolysis of the molten electrolyte, in particular, to production of aluminum and to the method of the electrolysis baths mounting. Among the produced metals besides aluminum may be magnesium, lithium, sodium, lead. The offered group of the inventions is suitable for production of the metals, which density exceeds the density of the melt, composition of which includes the decomposed compound. The technical result of the invention consists in provision of leak-proof-ness of the electrolysis baths mounting, which excludes extraction of the ecologically hazardous substances into the aerosphere, and in achievement of an effective withdrawal of the products of the electrolysis from the interpolar clearance. The multipolar electrolysis bath consists of: the housing, the hearth, the cover, the cathodes mounted upright or inclined and in parallel in respect to each other, and the low-consumed anodes connected to the direct-current source. At that the cathodes or their surface are made out of the material wetted by the produced molten metal. The electrodes have pits and the internal channels for transportation of the products of the electrolysis. The upper parts of the anodes and cathodes are fixed in the cover. The anodes and cathodes cross section is made in the form of a circle, an oval or a polygon with the acute or rounded angles. At that more than a half of the lateral surface of each of the electrodes faces the electrode of the opposite charge} and the same electrodes form the parallel chains, the cover is composed from the separately opening sections, and its lower surface is protected by the non-electroconductive material resistant to action of the electrolyte and the products of the electrolysis. The method of mounting of the multipolar electrolysis baths for production of the molten metals by the electrolysis of melts ensures, that they are mounted on the insulators on the shelves of the vertical frameworks one shelf above another with a clearance between them and with the possibility to extract from the framework of each electrolysis bath.

EFFECT: the group of the inventions ensures the leak-proof-ness of the electrolysis baths mounting excluding extraction of the ecologically hazardous substances into the aerosphere; the effective withdrawal of the products of the electrolysis from the interpolar clearance.
