FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-ferrous metallurgy, particularly, to production of aluminum, namely to design of electrolysis unit for production of aluminum by electrolysis of molten salts. Electrolysis unit design for aluminum production by alumina electrolysis in fluoride melt comprises in-series low-consumable metal anodes made of Cu-Fe-Ni or Fe-Ni alloy, connected to anode bus by vertical current leads, and wetted cathodes lined with refractory material covering the top of the electrolysis cell and a device for continuous or intermittent supply of heated alumina to the surface of the molten electrolyte, current leads to anodes located on the sides of the bath and connected to the busbar on the sides of the electrolysis cell. Electrolysis unit design for aluminum production allows to increase current output and reduce power consumption due to improvement of alumina baths supply, avoid formation of sediments and MHD-processes in bath, to improve quality of aluminum and to increase service life of metal anodes.

EFFECT: lateral supply of current to anodes simplifies design of electrolytic cell, removes beam-collector, mechanisms of lifting and feeding alumina charge, simplifies scheme and reduces weight of busbars, reduces capital and operational costs for aluminum production.
