FIELD: application on metallic substrate protective coating, for example aluminide coating containing at least one reactive element, possibly restoration or manufacture of metallic articles designed for operation at elevated temperature and subjected to action of oxidizing medium.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of applying onto metallic substrate at least one oxide of reactive element and then applying aluminum-containing component; performing heat treatment while providing mutual reaction of components and dispersing reactive element inside applied coating; using element selected of group containing zirconium, yttrium, hafnium or lanthanide as reactive element. Metallic substrate with protective coating of aluminide is also offered according to invention.

EFFECT: simplified rational process for forming on metallic substrate protective coating for protecting parts against corrosion and oxidation at elevated temperatures.
