FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely production of aluminum, particularly operations for changing waste fired anodes in aluminum cells.
SUBSTANCE: method of alternatively changing waste fired anodes at opposite sides relative to lengthwise axis of cell is realized according to algorithm given in description of invention. Anode array is divided by 3 or more groups having the same number of anodes including anodes near inlet and outlet sides of cell. At first anode of first group is changed. Then anode of second group arranged at opposite side relative to lengthwise axis of cell and spaced by distance equal to number of anodes in group at one side (inlet or outlet side) of cell is changed and so on till changing anode of last group. Then process is repeated from changing anode of first group selected at side opposite relative to previously changed anode of first group.
EFFECT: possibility for providing homogenous heat field, stable anode current and loads of jacks used for changing anodes.
