FIELD: railway transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to building of railways, particularly, to milling cutters for machining rail necks to eliminate local irregularities in zone of rail welded joint. Proposed milling cutter has housing and plate made of hard alloy installed on surface of housing to provide machining of rail neck from one side, one of tilted surfaces of rail head or one of tilted surfaces of rail base and one of radius surfaces mating with them and rail neck. Milling cutter is made for vertical working displacement to provide subsequent machining by one milling cutter of both tilted surfaces, both radius surfaces mating with them and rail neck, radius surface of mating of side face and tilted surface of rail head and side surface of rail base, and for machining similar surfaces of rail from other side.

EFFECT: provision of possibility of machining tilted surfaces of rail head and base, radius surface in lower part of rail head and side surface of base by one milling cutter, simplified design of drive of milling cutter, process control system increased service life of milling cutter and its efficiency in use.
