METHOD FOR MILLING WORKING SURFACE OF RAIL HEAD IN RAIL MILLING MACHINE AND RAIL MILLING MACHINE FOR PERFORMING THE SAME Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: machine tool manufacture, namely machine tools for restoring profile of single rail and of welded rail portions along the whole rolling profile length and rounding radiuses of rail head during one pass of rail, possibly milling new rails. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of milling rail rolling surface and one or two radius surfaces joined with lateral faces of rail head; in order to enhance accuracy basing continuously fed rail according to its non-worn inclined surfaces of rail head base and rail flange at self-aligning relative to vertical symmetry plane of rail and relative to horizontal symmetry plane of rail recesses; simultaneously milling by milling cutter rolling surface and one or both radius surfaces joined with lateral faces of head. It is possible to preliminarily work by means of one milling cutter radius surface of rail head at side of late non-working face. Rail milling machine includes frame with roller type basing apparatuses each having two pairs of rollers arranged one opposite to another and provided with mechanisms for pressing rollers to rail; apparatuses for friction motion of rail; system carrying one or several spindle stocks and drive units for feeding rail. Roller type apparatuses for basing rail and friction motion of it are in the form of separate basing units and basing-driving units. Each of basing-driving units includes two pairs of rollers arranged one opposite to another and provided with mechanisms for pressing rollers to rail. Basing units are mounted in cutting zones under milling cutters. Basing-driving units are arranged in inlet and outlet zones of rail over feed drives built in frame. Rollers have working surfaces in the form of truncated bodies of revolution, for example in the form of tore and they are designed for engaging with inclined surfaces of rail head and flange. Rollers have vertically arranged axes. Each roller is mounted on plate rotating around vertical axis and mounted on horizontal guides of units secured to frame. Mechanism for pressing rollers is in the form of hydraulic cylinder with double-side wedge rod whose wedge surfaces are designed for engaging through intermediate rams with rotary levers coupled with said plates carrying rollers. Mechanism for pressing one of two pairs of rollers to rail in basing-driving units provides possibility for self-aligning rollers. EFFECT: enhanced operational reliability, possibility for milling rails at enlarged range of allowances for their curvature and twisting. 6 cl, 20 dwg
