FIELD: fire-fighting, particularly to extinguish fires in open space and in rooms of any volume, including complex technological objects.

SUBSTANCE: method involves forming closed space over fire site with the use of non-combustible curtain supplied from above and extending along fire site perimeter. The curtain is formed of powder fire extinguishant, which is sprayed over fire site periphery. Specific powder fire extinguishant consumption for non-combustible curtain creation is not less than 150 g per each m² of curtain area. Specific fire extinguishant consumption is not less than 300 g per 1 m² of fire site periphery area. Inner curtain border is spaced a distance equal to not less than 0.8 of reduced fire site area from fire site center. Area of powder fire extinguishant spraying is 0.6-0.8 of reduced fire site area radius.

EFFECT: reduced specific extinguishant consumption, elimination the need of additional structure erection over fire site due to possibility to create closed fire-extinguishing curtain of fire extinguishant over fire site.
