FIELD: agriculture, in particular, protection of plants.

SUBSTANCE: method involves counting quantity of eggs on branches of upper, middle and lower part of oak crown and determining on the basis of data obtained the extent of eaten-around plantation; carrying out accounting on 1 m length of branch cores by registering hazard of full defoliation at the rate of 30 eggs or caterpillars per branch, by exterior characteristics of shield; incubating layings of different years for determining quantity of injurious eggs at prolonged diapause state; in the autumn, preliminarily referring as injurious eggs in whole shields free of holes and/or in shields with half stock of eggs having one hole from bred caterpillars; in the spring, determining actual egg reactivation in prolonged diapause state with one hole on shield and/or free of holes by incubation, which is carried out by placing oak branches with layings into reservoir filled with water; marking egg layings; finding out percentage of bred caterpillars and share of reactivation of prolonged diapausing eggs by varied number of holes on shields; comparing values bringing the threat of full defoliation with share of layings of eggs with two holes. Ecologically hazardous control measures are not designated when available layings exceed 60%.

EFFECT: increased precision in determining of harm by taking into account sane eggs on the basis of exterior characteristics of shield in layings of different years, with following incubation in the spring.
