FIELD: water treatment processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for treatment of water with hydrogen peroxide and heterogeneous catalyst to be applied for disinfecting drinking water in water supply systems of individual constructions, towns and other residential sites. Method according to invention comprises introduction of hydrogen peroxide, preferably in amounts 50-100 mg/L, and contacting with heterogeneous catalyst containing rutile and particles of silver. Catalyst is prepared by grinding naturally occurring mineral rutile into powder with particle size no larger than 0.5 mm, firing it at 800-900°C for 1-2 h, mixing fired powder with silver metal particles no larger than 0.05 mm in size and bentonite clay at fired rutile/silver/clay weight ratio (1200-2000):(1-1.5):(120-200), adding water to thus obtained mixture to form paste, partially drying the paste at 100-110°C, and molding partially dried paste. Catalyst is used in amount 0.5-1.5 mg per liter of water to be treated. Prior to be treated with hydrogen peroxide, water is passed through UV apparatus. Such treatment prevents outside bacterial contamination of water over a long (not less than 1 month) period of time at temperatures up to 30-40°C.

EFFECT: enhanced water disinfection efficiency and considerably reduced amounts of consumed silver.
