FIELD: medicine, natural foodstuffs.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to anti-atherosclerotic composition comprising the effective amount of phytoene, phytofluene or their mixtures providing inhibition of oxidation of LDL, and to a method for inhibition of development of atherosclerosis. Also, invention relates to using indicated amounts of phytoene, phytofluene or their mixtures for inhibition of LDL oxidation and development of atherosclerosis, for preparing a medicinal preparation for this aims and for preparing functional nutrient foodstuffs, dietetic supplements and beverages. Using phytoene, phytofluene or their mixtures provides the most effective antioxidant effect and inhibition of LDL oxidation by up to 90% as compared with effect of other carotinoid being even low concentrations of proposed active components.
EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness of composition, valuable medicinal properties.
