FIELD: mechanical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises mounting supports that define the chord in the plane of the minimum diameter of the wheel flange parallel to the rolling circle and positioned at a distance from it, transferring its direction and length on the plane of the rolling circle, additional regular measurements, and recording the series of appropriate intermediate elevations and sections of the chord from the rolling circle, and estimating the distortion of the actual rolling circle from the differences of the co-ordinates from the theoretical circle in the same plane determined form the formula propose. The device comprises pickups of linear movement whose outputs are connected with inputs of the two-channel recorder, housing made of rectilinear bounded guide, electric drive mounted at the end of the guide, kinematical members of the transmission between the carriage and bearing, additional two-channel recorder, computing unit, and indicator. The recorder and computing unit are connected with the control unit connected with the electric drive.

EFFECT: enhanced reliability of measuring.
