FIELD: rail vehicles.

SUBSTANCE: methods for monitoring the technical condition of wheel sets of rail vehicles. Method of laser scanning of a wheel pair of a moving locomotive consists of irradiating the surface of the wheel with laser scanner modules and receiving the signals reflected from this surface by the receiving devices of the corresponding sensors. Irradiation is carried out by means of modules of three laser scanners located on the inner side of the rail, and modules of two laser scanners located on the outer side of the rail, irradiation by each of the laser scanner modules is carried out with a different wavelength, the module of three laser scanners operates in mode of registering the profile of the wheel at the top of its flange, and a module of two laser scanners controls the surface of the wheel.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurement of wheel wear, estimated from the geometrical parameters of the flange.
