ENERGY-SAVING UNIT FOR TOWING VEHICLE Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC B64F1/22 

FIELD: ground servicing of aircraft; aircraft transportation facilities.

SUBSTANCE: proposed energy-saving unit includes tractor with carrier articulated on it and grip engageable with front undercarriage leg. Carrier is secured in rear part of tractor and is provided with hydraulic actuating cylinder located between stops on tractor frame and carrier. Carrier is made in form of actuating hydraulic cylinder-shock absorber. Tractor is equipped with hydraulic system with hydraulic accumulator; hydraulic motor and hydraulic pump are connected to transmission system. Proposed energy-saving unit increases torque delivered to drive wheels of tractor making it possible to tow heavy aircraft by means of low-power engines, thus enhancing smoothness of start-off and braking.

EFFECT: enhanced traction properties of tractor due to increased torque delivered to its drive wheels; enhanced smoothness of travel (dampening) at start-off and braking.
