FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a novel niobium pentachloride preparation method, which can be used to recover niobium in the form of its pentachloride from niobium-containing mineral stock. Method comprises interaction of niobium pentoxide with silicon tetrachloride at elevated pressure and temperature. Process is effected in autoclave under autogenous pressure at 205-245°C.
EFFECT: avoided formation of high-toxicity compounds such as phosgene, carbon monoxide, and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
