FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves chlorination of amorphous silicon dioxide in the presence of carbon, cooling and condensation of vapour. Amorphous silicon dioxide is chlorinated in a molten medium of potassium and sodium chlorides. The amorphous silicon dioxide is a product of leaching serpentinite mineral with hydrochloric acid. Liquid tetrachlorisilane is fed for removal of impurities.
EFFECT: ensuring uniform distribution of heat in the chlorination apparatus and low content of AlCl3 and FeCl3 impurities in the end product.
