FIELD: chlorination.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to a method for chlorination of silicon, titanium, aluminium or iron oxides, which can be used as raw materials for the metallothermic production of silicon, titanium, aluminium or iron powders. Any of these oxides, taken in powder form, are treated in a sealed environment, in the absence of moisture and oxygen, with gaseous carbon tetrachloride used as a chlorine donor and at the same time a catalyst, at a temperature from -65 to 300°C with production, respectively, of silicon, titanium, aluminium or iron chloride in a condensed aggregate liquid or solid state, and carbon dioxide in a free gaseous state. Carbon tetrachloride is first obtained by calcining petroleum coke, a product of oil refining, at a temperature of 600-700°C and treating it with chlorine.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to carry out chlorination reactions of silicon, titanium, aluminium or iron oxides at low temperatures in a sealed environment.
