FIELD: physics of Earth, in particular, palaeomagnetism.
SUBSTANCE: method uses radiolocation device with closely positioned emitting and receiving devices, containing horizontal magnetic dipoles, impulse generator of magnetic moments in emitting device and Squid-magnetometer based on Josephson effect in receiving device, angle of rotation of polarization plane of signal φ is measured on its way up to reflecting boundary in the soil of horizon level being studied or in it and vice versa in environment with magnetic induction Bz, coinciding with signal expansion direction. After distancing of emitting and receiving devices for sufficiently large distance, areas of level being studied are magnetized in constant magnetic field in horizontal direction averagely to ΔBH by means of horizontal magnetic dipole of area of level being studied. By moving receiving device along the circle with preservation of mutual orientation of emitting and receiving magnetic dipoles and measuring rotation angle of polarization plane, such position of device is found, at which angle of rotation of signal polarization plane is maximal. This means coincidence of radius, at which receiving device is located, with direction towards pole during age being studied, if in case of other value of ΔBH increment of signal polarization plane rotation angle is proportional to increment of magnetizing field.
EFFECT: it is possible to determine direction remotely.
