FIELD: medical equipment; expandable medical implants.
SUBSTANCE: extendable stint can be used for sustaining support in space of human body. Extendable intra-space stint with sliding-in and fixing radial members is made in form of tube member. Tube member has clear through space. The member has proximal and distal ends and length between ends which has to be measured. Diameter of space can change between at least first pressed diameter and at least second expanded diameter. Tube member has at least one module, one articulating mechanism and frame member, which surrounds at least one radial member in any module. Module has number of sliding-in and fixing members. Any member determines part of circle of tube member. None of radial members overlaps itself neither during first compressed diameter not at second expanded diameter. Articulating mechanism allows performing one-way slide of radial members from first compressed diameter to second expanded diameter. At the same time the mechanism doesn't admit radial recoil from second expanded diameter. Any radial member has at least one elongated rib disposed between first and second end parts. Among radial members, which compose module, radial members alternate, which members have odd number of elongated ribs and radial members having even number of elongated ribs. According to the second version of stint, radial members are made of material being capable of biological decomposition. The material has at least one biologically active agent being released at decomposition of material. According to third version of stint design, radial members have ratchet-and-pawl mechanism which allows one-way sliding of radial members from state with first compressed diameter into state with second expanded diameter. Moreover tube member has hardness being lower than 0,001 Newton of force by millimeter of curve. Wall has thickness being thinner than 0,006 inches when tube member is either in first compressed diameter or in second expanded diameter.
EFFECT: minimization of repeat stenosis; easy delivery to damaged part; correspondence to shape of damaged space of organism; expansion without changes in length; ability to keep expanded state without significant recoil; minimization of risk of thrombosis.
