FIELD: mechanical engineering; heat treatment of medical instruments.
SUBSTANCE: end of suture needle made from austenitic cold-hardened steel 18XHAГC and provided with support groove is clamped between two steel inserts and is placed in inductor; inserts are heated by high-frequency current. Support groove of suture needle is heated due to heat transfer. During expanding the filament, destruction of support groove is fully excluded although such defect has place in wires at relative elongation lesser than 1%, i.e. at low plasticity.
EFFECT: avoidance of destruction of needle support groove due to local loss of strength.
