FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy of metals of platinum group and can be used effectively in extraction of metal osmium from waste in copper manufacture. Method involves preliminary distillation of organic components in reductive medium from the parent raw representing sulfate slimes of copper manufacture. Cinder is treated with sulfuric acid at simultaneous stirring resulting to conversion of PbS to PbSO4. Prepared cake is heated to temperature 100-105° in oxygen medium to oxidize Os to OsO4 and its conversion to a volatile phase. Osmium is extracted from exhausting gases by known methods. Method provides elimination of steps for complex hydrometallurgic distillation of osmium and exclusion in use of expensive and hazard oxidizing agent.
EFFECT: improved distilling method.
