FIELD: gamma- and neutron-radiation detectors.
SUBSTANCE: proposed scintillation detector that can be used for detecting sources of neutrons, radioactive and fissionable materials in various radiation monitoring systems has scintillator recording either gamma- or neutron radiation, PIN photodiode, cable duct, and signal processing unit, all mounted in single case. Ball-shaped scintillator is assembled of two hemispheres which are in optical contact with one another. In addition, scintillator detector has reflecting surface in the form of film on hemisphere surfaces, second PIN photodiode back-to-back mounted relative to first PIN photodiode in center of ball-shaped scintillator wherein there are cavities to receive PIN photodiodes and cable duct. PIN photodiodes may be hemispherical in shape. Scintillation detector may also have spectrum mixer made in the form of thin film or coating between PIN photodiodes and ball-shaped scintillator.
EFFECT: enhanced degree of scintillation light accumulation affording enhanced sensitivity of scintillation detector.
