FIELD: electric jet engines; plasma accelerators.
SUBSTANCE: proposed electric isolator for plasma accelerator cathode gas path that can be used for Hall-effect or ion accelerators incorporating cathodes supplied with gaseous working medium in the form of inert gas (Xe and the like) has electric isolating insulator with at least one hole for passing working medium to cathode emitter, pipeline for feeding working gas to insulator incorporating flange for attaching to the latter, and pipeline for feeding working gas from insulator to emitter incorporating flange for attaching to insulator. Holes provided in insulator for passing working gas are offset relative to cathode emitter axis; axes of these holes are crossing butt-end wall of pipeline feeding working gas from insulator to emitter. In addition, maximal cross-sectional area of each hole for passing working gas to insulator is much smaller than length of this hole. At least one diaphragm having at least one hole is installed within pipeline feeding working gas from insulator to emitter; total cross-sectional area of holes in each diaphragm is much smaller than that of pipeline accommodating this diaphragm.
EFFECT: enhanced operating reliability of plasma accelerator cathode.
