FIELD: decorative coatings.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to galvanostegy, in particular to deposition of black nickel coatings on metal article surfaces, and can be used in formation of decorative coatings. Solution contains, g/L: nickel sulfate 60-70, ammonium thiocyanate 15-20, zinc chloride 15-20, aluminum chloride 6-10, ammonium fluoride 8-12, sodium silicate 0.5-1.0, surface-active additive (0.05-0.2): quaternary ammonium salt, namely perfluoroenanthic or -pelargonic acid N-hydroxrethyl-N,N-dimethylpropanesmide chloride salt having general formula:  wherein RF represents C6H13 or C8H17.

EFFECT: increased spreading capability of solution, enabled preparation of dendrite-free nickel coatings with their process and qualitative characteristics improved or preserved.
