FIELD: metal coatings. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrolytically depositing black nickel coatings which can be utilized as protective and decorative ones in variety of technical areas. Electrolyte for depositing coating is composed of (in g/l): nickel sulfate, 60-65; ammonium sulfate, 40-50; leather glue, 2-2.5; tincture of acorns of common oak Quercus robur L., 5 (calculated for dry residue). Nickelizing process is conducted at cathode current density 1-4.5 A/sq.dm, temperature 20-30 C, and pH 3.7-3.9. EFFECT: improved procedure. 2 cl, 1 tbl
