SUBSTANCE: proposed method that can be used for comprehensive diagnostics of power transformers and on-load voltage regulators, as well as for early-failure period tests involves simultaneous digital recording of phase currents through power-transformer winding and shift angle of drive shaft, moments of change-over of on-load voltage regulator contactor contacts being recorded automatically in response to origination of short-time current variations during their switching in power transformer winding phases when they are supplied with balanced currents from DC voltage source. This method also makes it possible to automatically compare change-over angles of contactor contacts and on-load voltage regulator switches. Device implementing this method has DC voltage source, digital recorder, six-conductor connecting cable, shaft angle-of-turn sensor, resistor unit, and four-conductor cable.
